Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 18, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of StoryLoft (the “Service”) — the StoryLoft mobile apps, the web dashboard at storyloft.net, and related features. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who May Use StoryLoft
Accounts are created by adults — parents or guardians for family use, or teachers for classroom use. Children under 13 do not create their own accounts; an adult creates and manages a child’s reading profile. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and you are responsible for activity under your account.
2. The Service
StoryLoft lets a child take an AI-generated reading-comprehension quiz on a book they have read, and helps parents and teachers track reading progress. Quizzes and book suggestions are generated by an AI provider and may contain errors; they are aids, not a substitute for an educator’s judgment. We may change, add, or remove features over time.
3. Accounts and Acceptable Use
Keep your login credentials secure. Do not use the Service to break the law, infringe others’ rights, attempt to access data that isn’t yours, disrupt or probe the Service, or scrape or overload it. Do not enter a child’s full last name or other sensitive personal information into name fields; StoryLoft is designed to store only a first name and last initial.
4. Subscriptions, Billing, and Refunds
Family plans are sold as in-app purchases through the Apple App Store and Google Play and are billed and managed by those stores under their terms; manage or cancel a family subscription in your App Store or Google Play account. Classroom and school plans are sold through our web checkout (payments processed by Stripe via RevenueCat) and may be paid by card or, for schools, by invoice/purchase order where offered. Auto-renewing plans renew until cancelled. Except where required by law or a store’s policy, payments are non-refundable. Prices may change on renewal with notice.
5. Free Tier and Fair Use
The free tier includes a limited number of quizzes per month. We may set reasonable limits to keep the Service available and to manage the cost of AI usage.
6. Your Content and Privacy
Reading records, quiz answers, and profile details you provide remain associated with your account and, for schools, with the school. Our handling of personal information — including children’s information under COPPA — is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. For school and district use governed by a data-protection agreement, that agreement controls to the extent it conflicts with these Terms.
7. Intellectual Property
StoryLoft, its name, logo, and software are owned by us and protected by law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. Book titles, covers, and authors referenced in the Service belong to their respective owners.
8. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third parties (for example, authentication, hosting, payment processing, book metadata, and AI generation). Their availability and terms are outside our control, and some links may take you to third-party sites we don’t operate.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that AI-generated quizzes, grades, or recommendations are accurate, complete, or suitable for a particular purpose, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StoryLoft will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or its users. You can request deletion of a child’s data as described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
